Frequently asked questions

What is HbA1c and what does it measure?
HbA1c reflects your average blood glucose over roughly the past 2–3 months. It is reported as a percentage; a higher value means higher average glucose. It is used both to diagnose and to monitor diabetes.
What HbA1c means prediabetes or diabetes in Canada?
By Diabetes Canada criteria, below 6.0% is normal, 6.0–6.4% is prediabetes, and 6.5% or higher is in the diabetes range (usually confirmed with a second test). The US ADA uses 5.7–6.4% for prediabetes, so borderline values can be labelled differently.
How is HbA1c converted to average glucose?
This tool uses the international ADAG formula: estimated average glucose (mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1c − 46.7, and (mmol/L) = 1.59 × A1c − 2.59. It is an estimate of your average, not a replacement for finger-stick or sensor glucose readings.
Can Ginie Health review my diabetes results?
Yes. A written opinion from a PGIMER/AIIMS-trained endocrinologist costs $45 CAD, delivered within 6 hours, with no referral needed — useful for understanding your HbA1c and planning next steps while you wait for a Canadian appointment.
